Safety Car

The Safety Car we use in Tunbridge Wells is fitted with a camera which captures images of vehicles that are parked in contravention of the regulations.

It is driven by a qualified enforcement officer and as it drives past a potential contravention, the camera is activated and a picture is taken without the need for the car to stop.

What does the Safety Car look like?

Tunbridge Wells Borough Council Safety Car

The safety vehicle is currently used in a number of ways to improve the safety of road users. It is driven by a qualified enforcement officer and as it drives past a potential contravention (examples are given below), the camera is activated and a picture is taken.

Schools

A primary objective of our Safety Car is to keep school entrances clear of parked vehicles. So please never park or even stop on school keep clear or zig-zag markings and help keep our children safe.

Pedestrian crossings

We want to stop people parking on pedestrian crossings and surrounding zig-zags to help avoid serious accidents.

Bus stops

By keeping bus stops clear it means that buses always have a place to let their passengers on and off in a safe manner.

What happens to the images taken by the Safety Car?

Our qualified staff review all the images taken. If an image proves that a contravention has taken place we will issue a Penalty Charge Notice and send it in the post to the registered keeper along with the photographic evidence.

The Safety Car is used to enforce restrictions in the Five-ways bus lane, and outside various schools in the Borough.
